Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - Indonesia menjadi juara umum Kejuaraan Karate Indonesia Terbuka ke-2 yang berlangsung 24-25 September di GOR Lila Bhuana, Denpasar, Sabtu, dengan mengumpulkan sembilan medali emas, 12 perak dan 18 perunggu.

Kesuksesan tim karate Indonesia di ajang pertandingan karate internasional itu sudah diperkirakan setelah beberapa negara kuat karate seperti Jepang, Korsel, Iran dan Uzbekistan absen dalam kompetisi yang didukung oleh bank BRI ini.

Sementara itu Malaysia berada di posisi kedua dengan mengumpulkan lima emas, enam perak dan dua perunggu, unggul tipis atas posisi ketiga Vietnam yang mengumpulkan lima emas, satu perak dan tujuh perunggu.

Pada kejuaraan karate ini, Indonesia menurunkan dua timnya yang terbagi dalam tim A yang berisikan para atlet pelatnas Asian Games 2010 dan tim B beranggotakan atlet pelatnas SEA Games 2011.

Kejuaraan Karate Indonesia Terbuka di Bali ini sebelumnya dijadwalkan berlangsung selama tiga hari, namun karena sedikitnya peserta yaitu tujuh negara, maka panitia memadatkan pertandingan hingga hanya berlangsung dua hari saja.

"Ini menjadi ajang uji coba terakhir bagi atlet pelatnas Asian Games, meskipun masih ada event lainnya yaitu Austria Open yang berlangsung sebelum berlangsungnya Asian Games di China nanti," kata Ketua Umum PB Forki Hendardji Soepandji.

Hari pertama kejuaraan, Jumat, Indonesia meraih tiga medali emas dari nomor Kata perorangan putra atas nama Faisal Zainuddin, kemudian di Kumite perorangan putri -68kg atas nama Yolanda Asmuruf dan di Kumite perorangan putra +84kg atas nama Umar Syarief.

Menyusul hari kedua, Sabtu, Indonesia menambah enam medali emas dari Kata beregu putra, Yulizar Usia Motuty di kelas Kumite perorangan putra -67kg, Donny Dharmawan di Kumite perorangan putra -60kg, Yelovin Prasetyo di Kumite perorangan putra -55kg, Umar Syarief di kelas bebas Kumite perorangan putra, dan terakhir dari kelas bebas Kumite beregu putra sehingga memastikan juara umum.

"Kemenangan ini cukup membanggakan bangsa dan negara, tapi perjuangan masih belum selesai. Kami harus bisa membuktikan ini sebagai langkah bagus dengan mampu meraih medali emas di Asian Games nanti," kata Hendardji Soepandji.(*)
