Ketua Umum Komite Olimpiade Indonesia (KOI) Rita Subowo melepas 14 atlet muda Indonesia yang akan berlaga di Youth Olimpic Games (YOG). YOG merupakan olimpiade yang dikhususkan untuk atlet remaja, kali pertama akan diselenggarakan di Singapura 14-26 Agustus ini. Ke-14 atlet tersebut diantaranya, Fibriani Marita Ratna, Pratama Siahaan, Patrisia Yosita (renang), Renna Suwarno, Evert Sukamta (bulutangkis), Macho Virgonta Hungan (taekwondo), Erwina Safitri (panahan). Lalu, Elga Kharisma Novanda, Destrian Satria, Onky Setiawan dan Suherman, di cabang balap sepeda. Rita melepas para atlet tersebut di Gedung Serba Guna Gelora Bung Karno, KONI Senayan, Selasa (10/8). "Semoga kontingen ini dapat berkonstribusi dengan baik bagi Indonesia," harapnya. Dia mengingatkan kepada para ofisial agar teliti dalam masalah administrasi sehingga tidak terjadi kesalahan yang dapat merugikan Indonesia. Kontingen Indonesia ke YOG akan terbang ke Singapura Kamis (12/8) besok. Selain berlomba di arena, mereka juga akan mengikuti serangkaian acara kebudayaan dan pendidikan. Dalam acara kebudayaan, kontingen Indonesia akan menampilkan kesenian alat musik tradisional Angklung. Alat musik khas Jawa Barat itu juga pernah ditampilkan dalam gala dinner turnamen bulu tangkis Indonesia Open beberapa waktu lalu. YOG Singapura rencananya diikuti oleh 3.600 atlet dan 1500 official dari 205 negara. Dari 26 cabang olah raga yang dipertandingkan Indonesia mengikuti tujuh cabang olah raga. Walaupun berstatus juara umum bertahan, Indonesia tidak membidik target dalam Asian Beach Games (ABG) II yang di Muscat, Oman 8-16 Desember mendatang. "Kita tidak berani memasang target meskipun ada peluang untuk itu, tapi mengingat persaingan akan semakin ketat, kita hanya berusaha memberikan yang terbaik," ujar Djoko Pramono, Chief de Mission Asian Beach Games kontingen Indonesia Djoko Pramono, di Jakarta, kemarin. Menurutnya keadaan sekarang berbeda saat Indonesia menjadi tuan rumah ABG I yang diselenggarakan di Bali tahun 2008. "Biasanya persaingan akan lebih ketat, kita tidak tampil di depan publik sendiri, jadi kita lihat saja," tutur Djoko. Dalam ABG Oman, Indonesia mengirimkan 140 atlet dari 12 cabang olah raga. Saat ABG I digelar di Bali 18-26 Oktober 2008, Indonesia menjadi juara umum dengan perolehan 23 emas, 8 perak, 20 perunggu. Mereka unggul jauh di atas runner up, Thailand yang hanya mengumpulkan 10 emas, 17 perak, 10 perunggu, dan China di posisi tiga dengan 6 emas, 10 perak, 7 perunggu. Oman yang kali ini menjadi tuan rumah, dalam ABG I bersama dengan Mongolia berada di peringkat 19 dengan sama-sama hanya meraih satu emas. Dalam ABG II, tampaknya Indonesia susah mempertahankan juara umum. Beberapa cabang andalan Indonesia yang banyak menyumbangkan medali di ABG I, kali ini tidak dipertandingkan. Cabang olah raga andalan Indonesia yang tidak dipertandingkan itu adalah, pencak silat pantai, dragon boat racing, selancar, dan paradigling. Dalam ABG II, rencananya hanya 11 cabang olah raga yang dipertandingkan. Indonesia, sebagai salah satu peserta, berharap bisa tampil baik di ajang itu. Ajang bertajuk Youth Olympic Games itu akan digelar 14-26 Agustus mendatang. Kegiatan olahraga internasional tersebut akan diikuti oleh 205 negara, dengan 3.600 atlet usia 14-16 tahun serta 1.500 ofisial. Cabang olahraga yang dipertandingkan mencapai 26.
